Could you live without the Internet?
What about a cell phone? Or microwave? Or television and DVD player? Or any of the other electric technologies, appliances, and gadgets that you may have grown to depend on to enhance your daily life?
It’s really not surprising that our national demand for electricity is at an all-time high—despite enormous gains in energy efficiency. Today the average U.S. household owns 25 consumer electronics products.1
Rapid population growth and an expanding digital economy will drive electricity demand even higher within the next 25 years.
Meeting this demand will be a challenge for America’s electric companies. And it will require them to make major investments in new power plants, as well as the transmission and distribution systems used to deliver electricity where it’s needed.
